No Cable TV Subscriber To Face Disconnection In West Bengal

Chief Minister of West Bengal, Ms. Mamata Banerjee has instructed cable operators not to disconnect cable lines if the users fail to pay for the next month. In this pandemic situation, there are chances many families are not able to meet their needs due to COVID-19. Keeping that in mind, the WB Government has instructed No cable TV disconnection.

The Chief Secretary quoted, “In view to the lockdown, Cable TV connections should not be disconnected by the service providers for the next month on account of non-payment of subscription fee”. According to sources, other states may replicate this move.

Why Such Move?

The Government of India has announced a lockdown of 21-days, causing all the citizens to stay at home. In Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, residents are relying on TV. Whether it is information about COVID-19 or entertainment. Many individuals are facing trouble to meet their daily expenses. Keeping that in mind, the Government of West Bengal has announced such a move for the citizens.

The Other States To Follow This Move:

According to sources, other states may follow this move. Since the lockdown, the total TV consumption of Indians has increased by 8%! Not only TV, the use of other electronic gadgets like mobile phones has also increased by 6.2%. According to reports citizens use electronic gadgets up to 25 hours a week. The sole reason is COVID-19.

Old Classics Are Back:

To make sure the citizens enjoy the quarantine period, several TV channels have starting broadcasting old icon television shows like Ramayana, Shaktiman. The Ramayana is broadcasted on DD National channel. Other TV channels are going to show their old series. Due to the coronavirus outbreak shooting of serials and movies are stopped, making it impossible to air regular shows.

Android Cable TV Operators To Offer Android Dongle In 2020:

On another news, cable TV operators might offer STB or Android TV dongle to counter DTH players. Hathway might launch an Android Hybrid Box soon. Den Network is also going to launch its Android Dongle this year. Other Major Cable Operators like Kerala Vision and 7 Star Digital might also offer Android STB soon.
