INTRO: Among this chaos and mess of anti-China sentiments that is sweeping through India, a new app that is claiming to cleanse your phone with of all “China apps” has jumped over to the top on the Play Store in the country. It is called Remove China Apps, the software claims to “identify the country of origin of certain applications”. And then removes it.
Remove China Apps Software Crossed 1 Million Downloads
The ‘Remove China Apps’ is free software in the android play store that claims to identify apps offered by Chinese companies. The developers of the app also claim that the app is only “for educational purposes only”, and is not intended or specifically to “force people to uninstall any of the application(s)”. But quite Interestingly, it seems to detect only third-party Chinese apps, like TikTok, but not pre-installed apps from Chinese smartphone vendors. It is published by Jaipur-based OneTouch AppLabs, and it went live on the Play Store on May 17. Since then, the app has been downloaded more than 1 million (10 lakh) times, and has an enviable rating of 4.8 with good reviews and feedback along with support.
App Went Viral Due To Anti China Sentiments
The software ‘Remove China Apps’ has gone viral at a time when the anti-China sentiments and emotions are at an all-time high on the rise, not only in India but all around the world because of the coronavirus which is said to be initiated from china. While the Chinese government’s initial handling of the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan last year has a lot to do with the negative sentiments for the individuals, the various conspiracy theories being spread by right-wing groups in the US and India have also contributed generously to it.
TikTok Ratings Also Got Mass Downvoting
Also in India, the YouTube vs TikTok row resulted in mass-downvoting of TikTok that has also reduced the app’s rating from 4.5 to 1.9 on the play store before Google deleted the spammy downvotes to restore the rating back up to 4.4. Obviously, the recent reports of Chinese incursions into Indian territory in Ladakh are also fueling the rage anti-China flames in the country.
